Padel snelst groeiende sport ter wereld

Padel is a combination of tennis and squash. You play it 2 against 2 on a court with 4 glass walls. The use of the walls around the course gives the game an extra dimension. Just like in tennis, the ball may hit the surface once before it has to go across. As with squash, this can be the floor or the wall. The walls make that an unattainable ball still becomes feasible, but also that feeling and tactics are even more important than in tennis. The smaller court and the use of the walls makes padel an explosive sport where speed and endurance are less crucial. It is easy to pick up and the rules and scoring are the same as in tennis. You do use a different racket (padel). A padel racket is smaller than a tennis racket and has no strings, but is made of fiberglass or carbon.

In 1969 there was a local contractor in Acapulco (Mexico) with a piece of land measuring 20 by 10 meters. This piece of land was in danger of being overgrown by plants. The contractor therefore placed four walls around the ground. Little did he know that he was laying the foundation for one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

The contractor played a ball game on the plot with his friends. A kind of tennis, but using the walls. One of his friends took the idea to Marbella, where he also built such a track. Many polo players from Argentina played on that court. They in turn introduced the sport to their home country. In Spain it is even the most popular sport after football (!) With 5 million players. Padel is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, with approximately 10 million players worldwide.

Padel is now also the fastest growing racket sport in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The advance of padel cannot be stopped. There is great interest in the sport and the demand for new jobs is steadily increasing.
