Government has not allocated a single cent towards saving Mar Menor

The recently released budget plan for 2022 reveals that the national government has not allocated a single cent towards saving the Mar Menor, which is in an incredible fragile state as nitrate-laden agricultural run-off continues to contaminate the salt-water lagoon.

Despite a total of 465.5 million euros being allocated to the Region of Murcia next year, no funds have been earmarked to help return the Mar Menor to its former glory, which leads to uncertainty about who will provide funding and what exactly is going to be done to save the lake.
